ABOUT

With over 20 years of experience in the field of art conservation my path lead me to a specialization in modern and contemporary art.

Formative parts of my journey were the developments of refined hand skills, complemented by their rooting in a scientific and ethical foundation during my studies in conservation at the University of Munich, Germany. I was honored to continuously weave both together and deepen my skills on an international scale, at art institutions and established conservation studios in Germany, Austria, Croatia, Canada, the Czech Republic, and finally, in New York City.

A substantial part of my journey constituted my years at the Museum Five Continents Munich where I had the chance to work on art from the entire globe across all time periods comprised of all imaginable materials and material combinations.

My work on e.g. contemporary African art, Indonesian plant sculptures or Chinese feather crowns not only rounded up my skills but opened them up to the broad variety of materials of contemporary art while continuing the deepening of my expertise in the conservation of modern and contemporary paintings.

My extensive experience in the fast paced art market of NYC and the world developed my deep understanding of the various stakeholders, their interwovenness and their needs.

I hold a deep pride in my philosophy of combining understanding my clients’ needs and following my strong work ethic. I believe efficiency in communication, research and treatments are the core principles that enable me to facilitate the close interweavement of meeting stakeholder needs with ethical approaches.

Essential components of my philosophy are the honoring and preserving of the materiality as well as the artist’s spirit, in alignment with ethical standards of our conservation profession such as reversibility and minimal intervention.

I am passionate about an individual approach to each artwork, its history, future, as well as its context.

I thrive on problem solving as the most creative challenge of a holistic balancing of the multiple facets of an artwork.

EXPERTISE

Within my specialization on modern and contemporary art, I work on painted as well as unpainted surfaces.

Due to my experience with artworks from all over the globe, I am experienced with materials and material combinations raging from parchment, feathers, textiles, hair, bone, plant material to wood, ceramics and painted metal surfaces.

Within my paintings specialization I have extensive experience in thread by thread tear repairs, allowing for an efficiency which makes this intricate treatment of fabric and canvas tears feasible within the realm of time and cost sensitivity in the art market while bringing almost invisible as well as structurally integer results.

I thrive on challenges such as matte or uncured surfaces just as much as on the challenge of efficiency within a problem-solving realm.

I work with galleries, estates, foundations, museums, auction houses as well as private collectors.

Awareness of stakeholder Needs

Flexible and on-site work

As a solo entrepreneur, I work on-site at galleries, storage units or any other client's setting while having studio settings available on demand. My setup allows for a high flexibility, direct communication and efficiency.

In my years working within the fast paced international art market I gained a profound understanding of the needs of involved stakeholders and the complexity of the interests of involved parties. I believe in clear communication as one of the main tools for problem-solving and for the best results for both the client and the artwork.

Condition assessments, collection care & advice

Apart from treatments, I provide the theoretical aspects of conservation, such as assessments for condition reports and treatment proposals, preventive conservation and collection care as well as advice for artists and any custodians of art.
